Monterrey, Mexico.- The United States is pleased to be the Guest Country in the International Film Festival (FIC) Monterrey this year, which takes place in a region where the relationship between the United States and Mexico vibrating so reflected. Cinema is an important means to share cultures, open dialogue, enhance understanding and mutual understanding.
The involvement of the U.S. Consulate in Monterrey in this edition of the film festival is a great opportunity to share with the public the other side of American cinema is not seen through the films of the major movie studios. Within the «United States, invited» the FIC, innovators will show documentaries, independent films and short films that represent the culture, values, challenges and American history, better than could any blockbuster.
Below is a summary of American films to be presented within the FIC of August 22 to September 1, 2013 and we invite you to join us.

Inaugural Gala

It will be projected during the Inaugural Gala on Thursday, August 22 at the Teatro de la Ciudad de Monterrey at 20:30 hrs.
Synopsis: A man and a woman are attracted to each other, entangled in the life cycle of an organism ageless. The identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the bits and pieces of shattered lives. This film is directed by Shane Carruth.
Awards Gala
Touchy Feely (Hands up)

The film will be screened after the awards ceremony, on Friday, August 30 at the Auditorium San Pedro at 20:30 hours.
Synopsis: A film directed by Lynn Shelton, whose story is about a masseuse who can not do his job when he suffers a mysterious and sudden aversion to bodily contact. Meanwhile, the dental practice of his brother gets new life when clients seek His healing touch. Touchy Feely was in the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and will premiere in our country.
American Film Screenings
The following U.S. films are available to the public from August 22 to September 1 for the FIC Monterrey and 3 to 8 September in the National Film (Mexico City), as an extension of the 9th International Film Festival Monterrey and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.
Feature film
1) Electrick Children – Rachel, a teenager from a fundamentalist Mormon community, believe in the Immaculate Conception, while her strict and religious family sees its status as an intolerable transgression. The search for the origin of the baby is a revelation to the young age of 15.

2) Euphonia – The main character is a quiet high school student. It’s good boy, but somewhat indifferent. Find an outlet when purchasing a Zoom H4 recorder. Suddenly, his experience of the world find ways that fascinate. Find new sounds and new sequences, making perceptive to the world in a way not common in young people. However, you must fight against the potentially harmful effects that your reality is based with what you hear on the microphone.

3) Five Dances – This is the story of Chip, a young man of 18 years of Kansas newcomer joins a modern dance company. 4) G-Dog – This is the story of a strange union. On one side is the father Greg Boyle, a Jesuit priest white has spent 25 years in the most difficult part of East Los Angeles, on the other, are the young, all former gang-kind, strong and savvy street, G-Dog who love and help, and whom they also want. Greg father Remedy for boys at risk to what he calls «the overall sense of failure» is radical and simple restorative love without limit. Estados Unidos se complace en ser el País Invitado dentro del Festival Internacional de Cine (FIC) Monterrey este año, el cual se realiza en una región en donde la relación entre los Estados Unidos y México se ve reflejada de manera vibrante. El cine es un medio importante para compartir culturas, abrir diálogos, aumentar la comprensión y el entendimiento mutuo.
La participación del Consulado de EUA en Monterrey en esta edición del festival de cine es una gran oportunidad para compartir con el público el otro lado del cine estadounidense que no se ve a través de las películas de los grandes estudios cinematográficos. Dentro de la sección “Estados Unidos, país invitado” del FIC, se mostraran los innovadores documentales, las películas independientes y los cortometrajes que representan la cultura, los valores, los retos y la historia estadounidense, mejor de lo que podría cualquier éxito taquillero.

Será proyectada durante la Gala Inaugural el jueves 22 de agosto en el Teatro de la Ciudad de Monterrey a las 20:30 hrs.
Sinopsis: Un hombre y una mujer son atraídos uno al otro, enredados en el ciclo de vida de un organismo sin edad. La identidad se convierte en una ilusión mientras luchan por ensamblar los fragmentos sueltos de vidas destrozadas. Este filme es dirigido por Shane Carruth.

La película será proyectada tras la Ceremonia de Premiación, el viernes 30 de agosto en el Auditorio San Pedro a las 20:30 horas.
Sinopsis: Es un filme dirigido por Lynn Shelton, cuya historia es sobre una masajista que no puede hacer su trabajo cuando sufre una misteriosa y repentina aversión al contacto corporal. Mientras tanto, la práctica dental de su hermano recibe nueva vida cuando los clientes buscan su toque sanador. Touchy Feely estuvo en el Sundance Film Festival 2013 y será premier en nuestro país.

De pronto, su experiencia del mundo encuentra formas que le fascinan. Busca nuevos sonidos y nuevas secuencias, haciéndose perceptivo al mundo de una manera no frecuente en los jóvenes. 4) G-Dog — Esta es la historia de una extraña unión. Por un parte está el padre Greg Boyle, un sacerdote jesuita blanco que ha pasado 25 años en la parte más difícil del Este de Los Angeles; por otra, están los jóvenes –todos ex pandilleros–bondadosos, fuertes y conocedores de la calle, a quienes G-Dog ama y ayuda, y a quien ellos también quieren. El remedio del padre Greg para los muchachos en riesgo a lo que él llama “el sentido global de fracaso” es radical y sencillo: amor restaurativo sin límite. Su compasión ha dado un giro a miles de vidas de pandilleros latinos, asiáticos y afro-americanos.
