México, D.F., a 22 de octubre de 2013 – La Embajada de Estados Unidos en México lanza campaña para hacer consciencia sobre los peligros de la inmigración irregular que van desde lesiones y experiencias traumáticas, hasta riesgos de convertirse en víctimas de la trata de personas y la muerte.
A partir de hoy la Embajada difundirá por entregas los materiales al respecto que incluyen videos, audios, pósters, y gráficos animados. La campaña tiene como objetivo disuadir a potenciales migrantes irregulares para que no caigan en manos de tratantes de personas, mejor conocidos como coyotes o polleros, ni que sean víctimas de la delincuencia organizada, en particular del tráfico de personas con fines de explotación sexual o laboral.
Hay indicios que muestran que debido a la posible próxima aprobación de una Reforma Inmigratoria Integral en Estados Unidos, algunos migrantes han intentado cruzar la frontera hacia E.U. sin documentos con la idea errónea de que si llegan a su destino antes de la reforma, les será otorgada su estadía de manera legal.
Esto es mentira, y recientemente muchos traficantes de personas utilizan este mito popular para reclutar a más migrantes indocumentados. A través de este esfuerzo, la Embajada de Estados Unidos intenta que quienes traten de entrar ilegalmente a su país estén completamente conscientes, no sólo de los peligros del viaje, sino que de ser aprobada la Reforma Inmigratoria Comprensiva, solo tomará en cuenta a quienes llegaron al país antes del 31 de diciembre de 2011 para regularizar su situación migratoria.
Apelamos a la fuerza de los medios en México para ayudarnos a hacer llegar este mensaje a los potenciales migrantes para que no sean engañados y cuenten con la información necesaria antes de tomar la decisión de migrar irregularmente.
The U.S. Embassy Launches Campaign
to Warn about the Dangers of Irregular Migration
Mexico City, October 22, 2013 – The U.S. Embassy in Mexico launches campaign to make awareness about the dangers of illegal immigration and injuries ranging from traumatic experiences, to risk of becoming victims of trafficking and death.
From today the Embassy in installments spread about materials including videos, audios, posters, and animated graphics. The campaign aims to deter potential irregular migrants from falling into the hands of traffickers, better known as coyotes or smugglers, or who are victims of organized crime, including trafficking in persons for sexual or labor exploitation .
There are indications that due to possible forthcoming adoption of a Comprehensive Immigration Reform in the United States, some migrants have tried to cross the border into the U.S. without documents with the misconception that if they reach their destination before the reform, will be granted stay legally.
This is a lie, and recently many traffickers use this popular myth to recruit more undocumented migrants. Through this effort, the U.S. Embassy trying to those attempting to illegally enter the country are fully aware, not only of the dangers of the journey, but if passed the Comprehensive Immigration Reform, only take into account those who came the country before December 31, 2011 to regularize their immigration status.
We call on the power of the media in Mexico to help us get this message to potential migrants from being deceived and have the necessary information before making the decision to migrate illegally.
