US program for young Mexicans wishing to develop high school leadership skills and develop a project to benefit their town
The US Consulate General in Monterrey is pleased to announce the call looking for the new generation of Youth in Action 2016. This program offers young Mexicans with scarce resources enrolled in schools, the opportunity to study and develop their leadership skills through scholarships that will be studied for four weeks in the United States during summer 2016.
Bases Scholarship
or Applicants must be Mexican nationals.
or Be attending the first or second year of high school.
or In the case of students in private educational institutions, the candidate must demonstrate that they have a scholarship of at least 30%.
or Minimum average of 8.5 in high school certificate and have advanced level of English.
or Join teams of 4-5 students within the same location (either in the same or different schools). It should appoint a team leader and choose a teacher from your school that agrees to support the team as mentor.
or Each team, using their leadership skills and social commitment, or submit a draft proposal addressing a community problem and focus on preventing violence, social breakdown, and / or consumption of substances harmful to youth health
Topics for Proposal
The priority themes for the projects to be developed by the contestants are:
* Dropout
* Bullying
* Sexual harassment and abuse
* Alcoholism
* Social and family disintegration
* Discrimination
* Gangs
* Prevention of substance abuse for health
* Gender violence
* Dating Violence
* Domestic violence
The teams that are selected must develop and implement their projects during the 2016-2017 school year after the summer program completed in the United States, so it is recommended that the proposed projects are feasible and realistic.
The call will be open until March 4, 2016 and the results will be announced on April 29, 2016 on the website of the Embassy of the United States.
